First decide what kind of page you opened
A China wholesale product catalog may be a photo gallery, a marketplace listing, a supplier-created product list, or a directory that points elsewhere. Each can support product research, but they do not provide the same evidence.
- Presentation catalog
- Shows products through photos, titles, codes, and category folders.
- Marketplace result
- Adds platform-specific seller, variant, price, and transaction context.
- Price list
- May show a wholesale price basis, but it still needs a date, currency, quantity tier, and option match.
- Inquiry page
- Collects questions or contact details; it does not by itself verify the supplier behind the page.
The minimum information worth recording
- Product identity: neutral product name, full code, category, and distinctive details.
- Option: color, size, material, model, packaging, or other variant.
- Quantity basis: one unit, one set, one carton, one color, or a mixed order.
- MOQ: the minimum per product, color, size, order, or carton.
- Price basis: currency, tier, validity date, and whether shipping or other charges are included.
- Evidence: dimensions, size chart, specifications, useful photos, and any QC reference.
- Link context: original catalog URL plus any separate source or marketplace page.
Turn broad sales phrases into questions
Phrases such as “factory direct,” “low minimum,” “direct supplier,” and “worldwide shipping” sound reassuring but leave important details unanswered. Translate each phrase into something that can be checked:
- Which legal or business entity is offering the product?
- Is the minimum stated per style, color, size, or total order?
- Which route, destination, package size, and charges are included in “worldwide shipping”?
- Does “factory direct” describe ownership, manufacturing, distribution, or only marketing?
- Does the displayed wholesale price list match the exact code and requested quantity?
Worked example: a backpack shown at a “from” price
A catalog card shows a canvas backpack, six colors, code BP-204, and “from 38.” The page does not state currency, minimum quantity, material weight, dimensions, or whether 38 applies to every color.
Keep: product code, six visible colors, construction photos, catalog URL.
Ask: currency, MOQ per color, unit price at two quantity tiers, bag dimensions, material description, packed carton details.
Do not claim: affordable wholesale products, low MOQ, factory direct supply, or shipping availability.
The catalog is still useful, but only as the starting point for a precise inquiry.
Use a keep, ask, or remove decision
- Keep: the product identity is clear and the page answers enough category-specific questions to compare it.
- Ask: the product is clear, but MOQ, price basis, options, QC evidence, or shipping inputs are missing.
- Remove: the code, option, source, or page owner conflicts, or the catalog provides no stable information for comparison.
A broad catalog becomes useful when it shortens the next question. If it only creates more tabs and more assumptions, it is not yet a usable research source.
